About our Teachers

Corinne Doret is the founder of Hills Yoga and the principal teacher. She has been teaching full time since its inception in 1999. Corinne has a background in Clinical Hypnosis & Counselling, Hypno-Cognitive & Behaviour Therapy and Childbirth Management. She retired from her private practice in 2001 to focus on yoga program development for childbirth, children, and for people with disabilities.

A yoga practitioner since 1993 she has trained with master teachers from Australia and overseas in Hatha, Iyengar & Ashtanga yoga methods, Vipassana & Zen and other types of meditation, Thai Massage and other bodywork techniques.

She created PowerBirth® in 1999 and provides presentations to midwives & childbirth educators in the private and public sector. Involved with people with disabilities, Corinne developed a program and taught weekly yoga classes to Warrah Post School Option and Hadpac's clients for 4 years at her studio.

Corinne brings to her teaching 30 years of practical experience and knowledge she has acquired through the studies and involvement with macrobiotics, humanistic astrology, eastern philosophies, meditation, aromatherapy, and psychology. Her approach to teaching is based on her own experience and self-exploration and reflects the inspiration of her studies and influence from the teachings of Sri BKS Iyengar and Sri Pattabhi Jois. Corinne continues to study with senior Iyengar yoga teacher Pixie Lillas.

A down to earth, supportive, intuitive and inspiring teacher, Corinne brings to her class humour, discipline, challenge, fun and compassion, motivating her students to explore deeper into their minds and bodies. Her teaching is hands on, adaptive, alignment focused and interactive with a strong empahsis on mind/body connection.

Corinne runs regular workshops, retreats and a mentoring program for teachers.

Denise McKertich started her journey in 2002 when she came back from her first yoga retreat embracing relaxation and releasing - a few of the many benefits created by yoga. She bought her own yoga mat which was the catalyst of 10 years personal yoga practice and several retreats. It was truly a wonderful way to balance family life (6 children) with a clear mind and open heart.

Denise noticed a great change in her wellbeing through all aspects of her life and undertook a one year full-time teacher training with Nature Care College and a mentoring with Corinne Doret.

Denise has a particular interest in traditional Hatha yoga with a restorative flavour and has done intensives with Donna Farhi and Judith Lasater.
A compassionate, caring and committed teacher, Denise's classes are innovative, approachable, non-judgemental, light-hearted and have the right balance between strength and flexibility. Denise guides her students through a well rounded practice that leaves her class feeling invigorated and grounded.

Denise has been with HillsYoga as a student and teacher since 2012.

Kim Smith has been taking classes with Corinne since 2010 and completed a mentoring program with her. Prior to joining Hills Yoga Kim trained with senior Iyengar teacher Carole Baillargeon her first teacher in Darwin, then spent many years at The Yoga Centre with senior Iyengar teacher Caroline Coggins and Suzi Chin Slicz (Sydney).

With a strong background in Iyengar and many years of dedicated practice, a gentle and nuturing nature Kim's classes are alignment focused, firm and encouraging.
